Our data collection team has been working diligently on a GPS B-box collection project for the Village of Minooka, IL. They recently completed Phase Two, which was started on May 11th. After Phase One of this project, the total number of B-boxes collected came out at over 650. Now with Phase Two completed, the total number of collected features is just over 1,400. The team is now looking forward to the next phase: drawing in water mains on the map!
The Village, with a population over 10,000, has been a wonderful client to work with, helping us with locations as much as possible, and keeping us in the loop on what they need as we add phases and progress through the town.
This process for the project has been centered around the Trimble R2. The Trimble R2 connects to our iPad via Bluetooth, which allows Tyler to acquire sub-inch accuracy while collecting B-box locations in the field. Once a B-box is located and created in the Collector map, Tyler continues to fill in all of the attributes while he is still out on site such as, address, grade of the B-box, etc.
This process of being able to use the R2 to get survey-grade accuracy while having the functionality of the created feature being right there in Esri’s Collector application ready to input attribute information has been a fantastic workflow for this project.
With this information, the Village of Minooka will have a more complete view of their water distribution system throughout the village, making planning, repairs, and expansion quicker and easier.
